May 7, 2010 – Living Hopers spent time on their knees this week, as they prayed for and dedicated a recently aquired Chapel that once was home to Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Sr. Pastor Jason Pettus urged worshipers to pray specifically throughout the facilities for what God can and will do in these places. Dr. Pettus preached from several scripture passages about when, where and how Jesus prayed. He encouraged church members to model those patterns in their daily lives. After a time of group prayer, church members fanned out throughout the building and into the parking lot for individual and small group prayer.

Living Hope purchased what is now the Chapel, Student Building and Care/Sr. Adults/Missions Building from the Holy Spirit congregation several years ago completing the transaction in March of this year when the Holy Spirit congregation moved to newly constructed facilities.

The buildings are contiguous to the current Living Hope campus and are being used while completing renovations. Living Hope is building a new Multi-Purpose/Education facility that will connect all the buildings. The entire project is scheduled for completion by January, 2011.

April 30, 2010 - Worshipers please be away of some parking lot changes for this Sunday, May 1.

FIRST - Rainy weather has forced the construction team to utilize parking spaces to be used for steel beams that will go into the Multi-Purpose facility. This will take away about 40 parking spaces on the Westen Street side of the Living Hope parking lot (see picture left). We apologize to those who use this area and ask you to come a few minutes earlyto find another space. Weather forecasts call for rain all weekend, so please prepare for that.

If the weather cooperates, this area should be cleared again for parking by early June. Thank you in advance for your patience and flexibility. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact Mark Gilliam at mgilliam@lhbg.org or at 843-9462.

SECOND – During this next phase of renovation and construction, the parking lot in front of the Children’s Building entrance facing Smallhouse road is being reserved for families with small children, so they can park close to the entrance of the preschool area (click here for map). If you currently use this area and are not one of these families, please utilize another area. See the See you this Sunday!

Pat McCubbin’s hand was steady on the uneven surface of the support beam as she wrote in bold, black letters her favorite Bible verse from Philippians. Mrs. McCubbin, senior adult at Living Hope, joined scores of others of all ages who wrote a verse, a prayer, or their name on the beams that will go above the walking track in the new multi-purpose facility at Living Hope.

If someone missed it, they can still sign beams the next two Sundays, April 18th and 25th, before and after each worship hour. They are located near the Westen Street entrance of the Adult Education building, near the front of the new multi-purpose building. To accomodate the signatures, two more beams will be placed on the concrete blocks the next two Sundays.

“I look forward to seeing you here…It will be a big day as we start off in the new place,” said Next Generation Pastor Jeff Armstrong in an e-mail to High School leaders this week. “ They are still cleaning the building, and we have a lot that needs to still be done…but we made it!”

When finished, the building features breakout rooms, linked flat screen TV’s throughout the structure, a game room, a full kitchen, student staff offices and more. It’s the first time in the history of Living Hope that a facility is dedicated to student ministry.

Remodeling of the former Holy Spirit Church parsonage is nearly complete and staff for Sr. Adults, Care and Missions has already moved into that facility. Those ministry staff include Missions Pastor Jeff Carlisle, Local Missions Pastor Stuart Borders, Missions Specialist Nora Hubbard, Care Ministry Assistant Peggy Easley and Sr. Adult Outreach Coordinator Jeannie Reneau.

April 11th is the first Sunday for the High School ministry in the newly renovated High School Building and the High School staff is excited about the move. This is the first time in Living Hope’s history that it has a facility dedicated to use by students. Work on classrooms and the large group room is moving at a fast pace. By comparison, the large group room is twice the size of the current Fellowship Hall, where the High School has been meeting.

March 10, 2010 - As part of the church expansion, high school students beginning Sunday, April 11 will meet in the former Holy Spirit Parish Hall, and the students should be happy with the changes. Beginning Sunday April 11, the Living Hope Baptist Church high school ministry will be more powerful and possess more tools than ever for teaching and evangelizing, thanks to a change in venue.

There will be many additions to the ministry, including:

•A Starbucks-like cafe

•15 large TVs

•A fellowship area about twice the size of what is available now in the current Fellowship Hall

•A kitchen

•A game room, including Xbox games, ping pong, etc.

•Concert lighting

•And, high-tech capabilities that will lend flexibility to teaching.

High school minister Jeff Armstrong is excited about the move. “The first thing, it is dedicated space for the high school ministry,” he said. “It’s about twice the size of the fellowship area now. There will be areas where we can have breakout sessions. We will have a kitchen so we’ll be able to feed the students.”

Jeff says the church is trying to create an environment for kids, who can have a place to hang out after school. Eventually, he said, there will be an outdoor area with perhaps a sand volleyball court, as well as tutoring for chemistry students.

The dedicated space will be available for wedding receptions and perhaps other events, but Jeff says mainly, the venue’s function will be for the high school students and other students as well.

There will be some physical limitations in adapting the hall for other events, but Jeff says wedding receptions and such are welcome to use the space. All these changes add up to more tools to reach young people.
